Wyoming Rising Membership Meeting, Nov. 22.

Wyoming Rising members to discuss restoring trust with Braver Angels.

Kris Korfanta and Tom Brantley, Wyoming co-chairs for Braver Angels, will join us for our November Zoom membership meeting (for members and a guest). The mission of Braver Angels–Unify a divided nation–has never been more necessary or timely. “Braver Angels is an organization uniting red and blue Americans in a working alliance to depolarize America. As individuals, we try to understand the other side’s point of view, even if we don’t agree with it.” SAVE THE DATE: Nov. 22, 3 pm

Members will receive an email with a link to join the meeting.

When you ask America about the greatest threats to our future, “political polarization and divisiveness” comes out No. 1 (Brooks, 10/30/20). How polarized is the United States? Are you unable to discuss political subjects with many of your family members, friends, and associates? Do you avoid listening to viewpoints you oppose? Are you afraid of offending others with your opinions?

Can a democracy survive if its citizens cannot discuss matters of common concern in a civil manner, and accept election results with grace, if not equanimity? A recent survey by Braver Angels (USA Today 10/7/20) found that 70 percent of Americans believe that if the “wrong” candidate wins, “America will not recover.” 61% of Americans fear the country is on the verge of civil war, with most of these identifying as either extreme left or extreme right (World Tribune 10/2/20).

Join us on Sunday, November 22nd at 3:00 pm for a 45-minute, virtual Wyoming Rising membership meeting that will focus on civil dialogue between politically opposed factions in our society. Kris Korfanta and Tom Brantley, “blue” and “red” co-chairs of the Wyoming chapter of Braver Angels, will explain their approach to healing the wounds between left and right and restoring civic trust. A discussion will follow their presentation. We have reserved two hours for the virtual meeting if people wish to stay longer than the 45 minutes.

Braver Angels (https://braverangels.org) is the nation’s largest grassroots movement uniting red and blue Americans in a working alliance to depolarize America. It was inspired by the words of Abraham Lincoln, who not only called on us as Americans to summon the “better angels” of our nature – but called on us to find the courage needed to pursue a more perfect union, “with malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right.” Braver Angels “is about building a house united.”

Wyoming Rising is able to do the work we do because of countless hours from volunteers dedicated to our mission. We rely on membership dues to advertise and pay costs associated with our marches, community conversations, and other events. We hope more of our supporters will consider membership or a donation.
