Where do we go from here?
Martin Luther King Jr. was an American Baptist minister and activist, one of the most prominent leaders in the civil rights movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968. Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community? is the title of his final published work. The book was his central case for hopefulness, for continued nonviolent actions, for a moral movement that brings people together across race, class, and party lines for economic justice. And to us in northwest Wyoming, King inspires our effort to find common ground and build community in order to get that more perfect union in which we all aspire to live.
Recent years have tested all of us as well as our belief in each other, and revealed how much work lies ahead in strengthening our communities. In recognition of how relevant King’s provocative question remains, we revisit his words in this 14 minute recording from 1967.
