Earth Day

April 22 is Earth Day. Here are ways to celebrate it.

EARTHDAY.ORG’s founders created and organized the very first Earth Day on April 22, 1970. Since then, they have been mobilizing over 1 billion people annually on Earth Day, and every other day, to protect the planet. Wyoming Public Media has tips on How you can participate.

Earth Day activities can be a great way to celebrate the planet and promote environmental awareness. Some popular choices include planting trees, going on nature walks, participating in cleanups, and enjoying the outdoors through activities like picnics or bike rides. You can also get creative with crafts and art, making birdhouses or bee hotels, or creating nature-inspired art pieces.

What is happening nearby?

National Arbor Day is Friday, April 25, 2025. In Cody,  Celebrate Arbor Day 2025 with  the Buffalo Bill Center of the West! and in Powell, with the City of Powell. Swing by to grab your free bare root tree sapling—while supplies last! They have multiple varieties available! 

• In Cody: Drop by the Center of the West at 720 Sheridan Avenue in Cody, WY between 10:00 and 2:00 to pick up your free tree!
  
• In Powell: come to Homesteader Park at 12:00 noon for your free trees and bushes !

Also at Powell’s giveaway (sponsored by the city’s Tree Board) you can visit with Powell Valley Recycling Center who will be there with exciting recycling news (hint: they are getting a glass crusher!).  And Wyoming Rising will be there as well with information from the Citizens Climate Lobby about actions you can take to your legislators and congressional delegation.

The Powell Library will host a pinecone birdfeeder-making event on Tuesday, April 22nd at 3:30. And at 6 p.m. they are offering a program on staying safe in bear country. both programs are at Homesteader Hall in the Park County Fairgrounds, Powell.

Outside of Park County:

• The City of Casper hosts an Earth Day Yard Sale where residents can sell items that have been recycled and composted. 

• Earth Day Expo and Film Festival (Cheyenne):

  The Unitarian Universalist Church of Cheyenne hosts an event that includes a film festival featuring films about the environment, kids and adult activities, an EV Alley, and talks on gardening, alternative energy, and local forestry practices. 
• Teton Valley Earth Day (Driggs, ID):

  This family-friendly event includes skits, tree pruning demonstrations, sprouting demonstrations, and a Hispanic Heritage dance troop. 
• Breathwork Quest: Earth Day (Casper):

  This event focuses on a unique breathwork practice, creating an earth altar, and sipping herbal teas to enhance connection with nature. 
• Early Earth Day Spring Cleanup (Sheridan):

  This event involves picking up trash and recyclables in Malcolm Wallop Park and along The Green Room Trail, and includes light park maintenance.
