What: Dr. Mary L. Keller of Cody will present “Truth in Action: Climate Reality and Rural Preparedness,” a 45 minute slideshow and facilitated discussion from 3-4:30 on Sat. Nov. 23 at the auditorium of the Heart Mountain Interpretive Center, 1539 Road 19 off the Cody-Powell highway. Mary is Associate Lecturer in Religious Studies and Adjunct in African American and Diaspora Studies at the University of Wyoming. Citing peer-reviewed science, she will present an overview of the causes of global warming, and a depiction of recent crises linked to global climate change. She will expand on the impacts to food production and human health. Beyond examining the seriousness of the climate crisis, she will consider opportunities for collaboration, mitigation and adaptation in a rural context.
Jack Tatum, Director of Homeland Security for Park County, will discuss the priorities of his office in securing and preparing the community for climate-related threats. This will be followed by an audience discussion facilitated by Ronn Smith of Powell, an engineer with experience in thermodynamics and climate statistics.
