What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect only the info shown in the comments form. Our system scans the visitor’s IP address and browser user-agent string to help spam detection, but our website managers cannot make heads or tails of that info.

If you use Gravatar, our system will check to see if the commentator is really you. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your Gravatar picture is visible to the public along with your comment.

Contact forms

If you email us through this website, we only see the email address you have used. No other data is collected from your contact.

Subscribing

When you choose to “subscribe to” Wyoming Rising, your email address and (and your name if you have provided it) are added to our mailing list and you will receive our eNewsletter and informational mailings. The administrator can only see your name and email address, no other information is visible.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). If you click on embedded content, it behaves like a link: you will be redirected to the linked website and to whatever cookies they use.

Who we share your data with

Nobody. Never. Ever.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

What rights you have over your data

If you have left comments on this site, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

How we protect your data

Our site is SSL certified. An SSL certificate serves as a digital “passport” that allows data to be transmitted over secure networks — protecting financial and credit card transactions, signups, web access to mail, sensitive information and intranets. It authenticates and encrypts the data transferred through the website to the server.

You can rest assured that your data is protected by a secure connection, and our site is vouched for by a trusted Certificate Authority.
